Mayen, the gateway to the Eifel, is ideally situated for all your excursions. The Rhine, the Moselle, the beautiful Lahn Valley or the Ahr are all within easy reach. Go for a hike on one of the dream trails and in the evening maybe to the beer garden near Niedermendig…
The surroundings of Mayen also have a lot to offer. There are numerous dream trails in the immediate vicinity. Or just a short 4.5 km hike to Bürresheim Castle, followed by a stop at the Hammesmühle country inn. Those looking for a challenge can try climbing in the former quarry near Ettringen, only 3.8 km away, or in the Vulkanpark climbing park (8.9 km). Lake Laach, about 14 km away, invites you to take a circular hike followed by a visit to the Maria Laach Abbey Church. Koblenz, a city with many shopping opportunities, is 30 km away. The Moselle and Rhine rivers invite you to take a boat trip, perhaps to Stolzenfels Castle, while the cable car makes it easy to visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. For those interested in racing, the Nürburgring can be reached in 24 minutes (distance 26 km), and cyclists should explore the varied Maifeld cycle path (start is at the Ostbahnhof in Mayen). How about a ride on the Volcano Express to the nearby Brohl Valley (start in Brohl, 25 km) or to Mendig to the Lava-Dome, 10 km away, to explore the adventure of volcanoes?
